The contract for the refurbishment of St. Joseph's primary School, East wall Road ....

St. Joseph's Co-Educational Primary School on East Wall Road in Dublin 3 has been without a heating system for  a considerable time.  A contract for a package of emergency works, including the installation of a complete new heating system was signed today with MDY Construction.

The works also include a completely new electrical installation, replacement windows for most of the ten classrooms, minor structural works,  replacement ceilings, floor repairs, new Marmoleum flooring, re-decoration, and sundry minor works.

Murray O'Laoire Architects lead a Design Team which includes MacMinn O'Reilly Mahon (PQS), Synergy Engineering Ltd. (M+E Services), and Fitzsimmons Doyle Structural Engineers.   The MDY team is led by Denis Lahart (Contracts Manager), Karl Fagan (Site Manager), Joe Carley (Senior QS), and Jason Nolan (Safety Manager.

The works are scheduled to commence on 21st October 2009 and take 23 weeks to complete. Due to the urgency of getting heat on in the school before severe winter weather conditions arrive, MDY have given a commitment to have the heating operational by 2nd December 2009.

"While the value of the works is quite small, it is encouraging for the company that it is possible to compete successfully in the current economic environment. Small as it is, it represents a challenge to the management team to bring the contract in on time and budget without incurring a loss"
