Kiltipper Woods Care Centre is to be extended .........
Kiltipper Woods Care Centre is to be extended with the addition of a
further 24 residents' rooms, a hydroherapy facility, upgrades to the
existing facility, improved staff
facilities,
and enhanced ancillary service areas. MDY Construction began today with
securing the site, clearing areas, and carrying out some enabling works
to the existing underground services. The works proper will commence
on 4th August 2009, with the major extensions scheduled for completion in the early part of 2010.
The care facility will fully maintain its current business
throughout the building period. This will necessitate completion and
certification of the new parts prior to commencement of alterations and
refurbishment to the existing facility.
New link structures will serve to integrate the new buildings with the existing facility.
The works include complete mechanical and electrical installations, underfloor heating, medical gas services, central vacuum cleaning system, Medivac system, and specialist sanitary fittings to the en-suite bathrooms.
The structure is primarily of masonry wall with suspended ground and first floors and mansard style roof to match the existing.
External works include re-routing of existing sewer, water, and ducted services as well as a new petrol interceptor and attenuation tank. Provision has also been made for the construction of a new pathway and associated fencing and landscaping to provide public access to the Dodder River bank.
The most challenging element of the project will be the co-ordination of the works and building activities generally to ensure that the operation of the facility, and the care and comfort of the residents, are not affected in any way.
