The Church of Ireland Theological Institute refurbishment and extension started today.........

The Representative Church Body has awarded the contract for the refurbishment and extension of the Theological Institute in Churchtown, Dublin to MDY Construction.
The works, which consist mainly of extensive remodeling and repair of the residential block together with alterations to the teaching block, have been designed by David Young of Hamilton Young Architects. Residents' accommodation is being upgraded to include en-suites, new windows and doors are being fitted, the roof is to be repaired, extensions are being added, access is being upgraded to comply with Part M of the Building Regulations, and the mechanical and electrical installations are to be completely re-vamped. The teaching block, which as a listed building will require particular care and attention, is being altered to improve accommodation, access, and fire compartmentation.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in September 2009 in time for the commencement of the college year, subject to receipt of planning permission for some elements of the proposed works.
Denis Lahart as Contracts Manager will lead the MDY team and take responsibility for all aspects of the works. His team includes Karl Fagan as Site Manager and Joe Carley as Quantity Surveyor.
MDY Construction Managing Director, Patrick Cosgrove, expressed delight at working once again with Hamilton Young Architects and the Representative Church Body having successfully completed the Athy Parish Centre for them in 2008.
