Respond! Cookstown Way project finally gets under way...
Work commenced today on the Respo
nd!
and St. John of Gods housing project at Cookstown way in Tallaght. The
formal go-ahead was issued in July after several months delay pending
resolution of legal matters.
The project consists of 161 units in eight buildings comprising 5 multi-storey apartment blocks, independent living/communal services block, one créche/community building and one independent living/St. John of Gods Menni Services block.
The intervening time was not wasted, however. In spring 2007 MDY, in co-ordination with members of the Design Team, began the process of surveying and assessing the location and extent of the existing utility services which criss-cross the site. Liaison took place with ESB and other providers to draft a scheme for re-routing the affected services. Arrangements were also put in place with South Dublin County Council with regard to public lighting, traffic signals, watermains, and location of hoarding. All of this meant that when possession of the site was eventually given, there were no further obstacles to proceeding with the works. The services diversions will, notwithstanding the above, have a significant impact on the commencement of major sections of the works.
Mel O'Reilly, Construction Director will head up the MDY project team, the principal members of which are: Sean Cummins - Contracts Manager; John Maher - Site Manager; Tom Dunne - Senior QS; Shane Hartley - Project QS; Jason Nolan - Safety Manager.
It is anticipated that the services diversions will be completed by the end of October or early part of November, allowing work to proceed throughout the site.
The expected completion date for the entire project is January 2011.
