A new school in Stepaside - Gaelscoil Thaobh Na Coille - started today......

Gaelscoil Taobh na Coille in Stepaside, which commenced on site today, is the latest in a succession of school projects undertaken by MDY Construction for the Department of Education & Science in areas such as Kilmead, Clane, Lucan, Celbridge, Lucan Esker and Athy.

The 16 classroom Generic Repeat Design school, which is located adjacent to the Belarmine development, includes a Sports Hall/ GP Room.  The structure is of standard masonry 415mm cavity wall construction with some structural steel elements for columns and roof.  External finishes include Kingszip roof panels, polished granite stone facings, aluminium windows and doors, and painted nap render.

The management team assigned to the project is led by Denis Lahart, Contracts Manager, with Fergus Higgins as Site Manager, Joe Carley as Senior QS, and Ian Hollingsworth as Site Engineer.  The projected completion date for the project is mid-June 2009, allowing sufficient time for the school authorities to have staff and facilities fully set up for the commencement of the school year in September.
