Cumberland Street mixed development in Dublin 2......

The first meeting took place on site today at the McGreevey premises in Cumberland Street, Dublin 2.  Demolitions are due to take place as soon as the existing ESB supply is removed, temporary works have been designed, and hoarding licences have been issued. In the meantime, some exploratory works are required in order to ascertain the nature of the ground and the interconnections to adjacent buildings.  Uncharted basement structures have been discovered in preliminary investigations, but the structure and extent is not yet known.

Following detailed negotiations with the owners, McGreevey Brothers, and RC Design, the architects for the project, the contract for the demolition and the construction of the new four-storey mixed used development has been awarded to MDY Construction.

MDY Contracts Manager Denis Lahart and his team of Karl Fagan, Site Manager, and Garret Fitzsimons, Project QS, are very much aware of the constraints due to the infill nature of the site, the age and condition of the abutting buildings, the depth of excavations for the basement and lift shaft, and the "island" nature of the building which fronts onto two public roads.

The period from the start of demolition works through to the placement of the podium slab will be the most time-consuming stage of the works.

The expected completion date for the project is April 2009.
