Easton Mews Homeowners Take Possession of Energy-efficient Houses....
There
was great excitement and merriment as the members of the Easton Mews
housing group took possession of their individually configured,
energy-efficient, homes on Friday 2nd November 2007.
Cllr. Teresa Byrne was in jubilant mood as she handed out the keys to the 27 homeowners. Deputy Bernard Durkan T.D. was on hand to ensure that all went smoothly and even offered to assist the MDY crew in removing the site compound gates and hoarding.
Designed by Jay Stuart Architect to an extremely high standard of air tightness and insulation, these homes may serve as a model for many other developments in all parts of the country as the need for energy efficiency is driven by high energy costs, peak oil production, and global warming. Air-supply windows and passive stacks are used to provide efficient ventilation to the houses.
Each of the units is configured to the requirements of the owners with a wide range of layouts, kitchen fittings, and 2nd floor design. While varnished timber flooring and plastering to the 2nd floor, or attic areas, are included as standard items in all units, some of the houses have a complete fit-out of the 3rd floor space.
